Does Reiki Healing actually work?

As a Reiki Master Teacher with over 20 years of experience, I have witnessed firsthand the profound effects of Reiki on myself and my clients. The simple answer to whether Reiki works is ‘yes.’ Reiki is a form of energy healing, and according to quantum physics, everything in the universe, including our bodies, is composed of energy vibrating at different frequencies.

Although energy is not always visible, it surrounds us in various forms such as light, sound, heat, and electromagnetic waves. Reiki, which means ‘universal life force energy’ in Japanese, involves channeling this energy from the practitioner to the recipient to promote healing and balance. Reiki can help reduce stress and anxiety and alleviate physical symptoms such as pain, insomnia, and headaches.

During a Reiki session, clients often report feeling warmth, tingling sensations, and even seeing colors, despite no physical contact. Reiki works regardless of the recipient’s belief in it. I have treated several skeptics who have had remarkable experiences. For instance, one of my male friends, initially skeptical about Reiki, agreed to try it. He fell asleep within 20 minutes and remained asleep for an hour. Upon waking, he described feeling as though “all these things” had flown out of his head, indicating the release of stagnant and negative energies that no longer served him.

Another client, Lyndsey from Derbyshire, shared her experience: “Having never tried Reiki before, I wasn’t sure what to expect! Chia made it so comfortable for me, and the sessions were amazing. Reiki has helped me feel more relaxed, appreciate those around me, and, most importantly, manage my digestive system and the issues I was facing.”

For those interested in the science and research behind Reiki, the UK Reiki Federation provides links to various research papers on their website. Additionally, studies, such as one found in the National Library of Medicine, have shown that Reiki can be more effective than the placebo effect.
