Nestled amidst the serene landscape of Dharamshala, Hitomi Fujihara, a Japanese native and the founder of a quaint Ayurveda salon in Japan, finds a deeper connection with ancient Indian philosophy. Fujihara’s passion for Ayurveda isn’t just a profession—it’s a way of life that she eagerly shares through her work in therapeutic Ayurvedic massages and teachings. Recently, during her travels in Dharamshala, she sat down for an enlightening interview with Dharte to discuss her journey and the profound impact of Ayurveda on her life.
“Originally from Japan, my name is Hitomi, and I’m, how to say, uh… I run a small Ayurveda salon where I teach about Ayurveda and perform Ayurvedic massages,” Fujihara explained in her interview with a modest smile. Despite her initial struggles with English, her passion for her craft was unmistakable. “I learned about Ayurveda 30 years ago, and it’s been around twelve years since I began practicing professionally. I love the philosophy of Ayurveda; it teaches me so much about life, from what we eat to how we live—it’s really everything to me.”
In the tranquil settings of Dharamshala, Fujihara seemed more introspective as she shared her thoughts on why Ayurveda is pivotal to her existence. “Ayurveda is not just about physical wellness; it’s a deeper understanding of life. It’s incredibly relevant today when we are all so busy and caught up in our routine lives. This philosophy helps us understand how to live deeply and meaningfully,” she mused, the Himalayan backdrop accentuating her reflective mood.
Hitomi’s journey to Dharamshala isn’t just a physical travel but a continuation of her education in Ayurveda, where she immerses herself further in its principles amidst the land where it originated. She underscores that Ayurveda is a comprehensive science, full of wisdom that has significantly benefitted her life. “Indian philosophy is very interesting to me. It has so much to offer in terms of knowledge and learning. It’s very helpful in our lives, teaching us not just about better health practices but also about spending our time wisely and living well,” she noted during the interview.
Her Ayurveda salon in Japan is a small haven where she dedicates herself to educating others about the benefits of Ayurvedic practices and the holistic wellness it promotes. Each session she conducts is an embodiment of her learning and admiration for this ancient science, tailored to help others achieve balance and wellness in their lives.
As Fujihara continues her sojourn in Dharamshala, she is a beacon for those looking to understand and incorporate Ayurveda into their modern lifestyle, proving that the essence of ancient wisdom is timeless and can deeply enrich our bustling modern lives.
