Sonika Vickraman
Sonika Vickraman has spent nearly thirty years immersed in martial arts, Tai Chi, Qigong and energy healing — a path that has taken her from the competitive arena to the quieter terrain of inner work. As a karate practitioner she earned district, state and national medals, won a bronze at the KOI World Cup in Greece in 2005 and a silver in Bulgaria in 2007, and represented India three times on the world stage. In 2018, her contribution to the discipline was recognised with a Life Achievement Award presented by superstar Rajinikanth. That competitive history gives her teaching an unusual authority — she knows what the body is capable of, and what it costs.
Today, Sonika's practice centres on Tai Chi, Qigong and Zhineng Qigong, guiding students toward balance, vitality and self-knowledge under her guiding principle of Know Thyself. Alongside the movement arts, she is a Reiki Master offering Qi healing sessions, and her therapeutic toolkit extends into Emotional Freedom Techniques, Cranio Sacral Therapy, Family Constellations therapy and past-life recall work. She also facilitates Access Consciousness Bars and Body Process sessions, as well as an energy face lift. For those seeking immersive practice, she leads retreats, including in the hill station of Kodaikanal.
What distinguishes Sonika's work is the thread that runs through all of it: a championship athlete's respect for rigour, applied now to the subtler disciplines of energy and awareness. Where many practitioners come to healing through loss or illness, she arrived through mastery — and that gives her teaching a different quality. She does not romanticise the work. Tai Chi and Qigong, as she practises them, are disciplines in the truest sense, demanding patience and consistency, and her students tend to find that the slow, deliberate quality of the forms gradually changes the way they hold themselves in the rest of life.
Sonika Vickraman is worth seeking out for anyone drawn to the contemplative martial arts, curious about Qigong as a daily health practice, or looking for energy healing work grounded in lived physical experience rather than theory alone. Whether you come for Tai Chi classes, a Qi healing session or one of her retreats, her decades of practice give the teaching a tangible depth.
